The Manchester leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour reached its conclusion on Sunday 5 March. The main event saw 268 players compete for a share of a prize pool worth more than £200,000, and it was Andy who emerged as the biggest winner with a flush in the final hand.
Speaking after the tournament in Manchester, Andy was understandably delighted with the way things had gone for him. ‘I’m elated with the result and this dwarfs my previous best cash when I won 25/25 Blackpool last year,’ he said. ‘We played on for the trophy and I managed to take it down – my first ever Main Event win! I’m absolutely thrilled, and already looking forward to the next event in Edinburgh.’
The GUKPT Edinburgh event that Andy referred to is the third leg of this year’s tour, and will be held at Grosvenor Casino Maybury from Sunday 26 March to Sunday 2 April. The guaranteed prize pool for this leg is £100,000, and the direct buy-in is £500 + £50. That said, Grosvenor actively encourages players to have a go at winning themselves a seat in the Main Event by participating in various satellite events at Grosvenor Poker online or at the bricks-and-mortar venue itself.
Poker players who won’t be able to make it to Edinburgh will be interested to note that a 2017 Easter Beast tournament will be taking place on various days between Monday 10 and Monday 17 April at Grosvenor Casino venues across eight regions, nationwide. The direct buy-in for Easter Beast events is £100 + £10, but once again, satellite tournaments at Grosvenor Poker online will give you a shot at taking part for a fraction of that.
Those of you who do get involved in the next leg of the GUKPT in Edinburgh would do well to keep an eye on Andy Hills, as he will undoubtedly be looking to make headlines again this year. Visit Grosvenor Poker to secure your chance of doing the same, and good luck!
