Only half of the year has elapsed and already fans have been treated to quite a few brand new gaming titles from leading Swedish developer NetEnt, including Hansel and Gretel, Copy Cats, Jungle Spirit: Call of the Wild, and Emojiplanet. Now yet another fantastic title can be added to the list, because the company has just released Butterfly Staxx, which is its latest title to feature popular retro-style low-poly graphics.

The popularity of titles featuring low-poly graphics is probably due to several factors. The first is that it gives players a clean, simple and enjoyably relaxing gaming experience which is very different to the ‘assault on the senses’ approach taken by many other modern titles. The second is that the low polygon count is reminiscent of games that were played in the 80s, which adds a touch of nostalgia for players of a certain age. And, if a third reason is needed, low-poly games are just very different from the current norm, and variety really is the spice of life.

Butterfly Staxx, as you might have guessed, has a sparkling butterfly theme. The game has five reels, four rows and 40 fixed pay lines, and symbols include low-poly playing card ranks J, Q, K and A, animated butterflies, and a variety of vibrantly coloured flowers. A Wild symbol makes it easier for players to complete winning lines or improve on ones that have already been completed, and a special Superstaxx feature, which is randomly triggered, stacks symbols to fill one or more reels.

Get three or more Scatter symbols on the reels at the same time and you will trigger a Butterfly Spins bonus round, in which the reels are filled with cocoon symbols. Spin the reels to release butterflies from the cocoons and the ones that appear will be held for the next spin, giving players the chance to build up some serious wins.

As you would expect, the low-poly graphics are gorgeous, boasting neon-style colours and appealing animations. The audio is also impressive, with a relaxing other-worldly soundtrack and light sound effects giving the game a uniquely enjoyable ambience.

‘The release of Butterfly Staxx builds on a series of fantastic NetEnt game launches in 2017,’ said Simon Hammon, who is Chief Product Officer at NetEnt. ‘With its vivid and enchanting graphics – in the popular low poly design – combined with classic gameplay and features, I’m sure Butterfly Staxx will be a successful addition to our award-winning portfolio.’

Butterfly Staxx can be played at Mr Green Casino as well as other venues that offer NetEnt titles.
