The world record was set on Tuesday 6 October, when Jon Heywood of Cheshire placed a 25p bet and spun the reels of the popular Mega Moolah slots game to bring in the jackpot. Jon’s success was immediately declared a world record, but that claim needed to be verified. Evidence of the win and all relevant related information was supplied to the Guinness World Records organisation by Microgaming and Betway, the online casino that Jon was playing at when the win occurred.
After the information supplied was ratified by eCOGRA and approved by Guinness, the world record was officially announced, with Microgaming sharing the accolade with Betway and Jon Heywood himself.
‘I’m pleased to confirm that the Guinness World Records title for the largest jackpot payout in an online slot machine game is €17,879,645.12, which was won by Jonathan Heywood, while playing Microgaming’s Mega Moolah on Betway's website,’ said a spokesperson for Guinness World Records. ‘And Jon is certainly in the moolah now, thanks to his exceptional stroke of luck.’
The Microgaming team was more than simply pleased with the confirmation, as CEO of Microgaming, Roger Raatgever, explained: ’When news broke about Jon’s amazing jackpot win back in October, we were overjoyed – what an incredible and heart-warming story. We’ve achieved many industry records over the years, but to be officially awarded a Guinness World Records title is a special and proud moment for us all. It cements our position in providing the largest and most exciting progressive jackpot network in the industry. We can’t wait to hang the certificate in our office reception!’
We congratulate Microgaming, Betway and Jon on their new world record, and wish them all continued success in the future. And, for those of you who fancy having a go at winning your own Mega Moolah jackpot (which has a current value of more than £2.97 million), you can do so by visiting 32Red Casino or any other venue on the Microgaming platform.
