A slots player at the Grosvenor Casino Blackpool is celebrating after recently winning a jackpot worth £18,231. That figure isn’t at all far off the £20,000 maximum that can be won on a linked progressive jackpot game within a single venue, so Christopher Holder, who is from Cumbria, was about as successful as he could have been on his chosen game.

Mr Holder was already planning to visit Las Vegas in 2019 to celebrate his 50th birthday as well as his wife’s 60th, so his slots success in Blackpool just might be a good omen. The fact that he has landed such a meaningful prize means that he now knows from personal experience that it is possible to win big, and that is something which is likely to make his trip to Vegas more tantalising than ever.

Whilst it tends to be online jackpots which grab most of the gambling industry headlines, there is something about offline wins that tends to make them even more exciting. The physicality of playing games in a traditional casino environment – from inserting money into the machines or rolling the dice across the baize, to the sound of other players doing the same and the friendly attention given to players by floor staff – is impossible to replicate online.

The moment of a big win is also one that feels different when playing offline. Landing a jackpot worth thousands or tens of thousands (or even more) is something that attracts plenty of attention in a traditional bricks-and-mortar venue, and the envious smiles from other players and extra-special treatment that comes with the achievement add an additional layer of sensory richness to the event that makes it even more memorable than it would be otherwise.

Of course, playing at offline venues also requires a little more thought than online participation. For example, it is important to be aware of the house rules of the casino you are playing in, otherwise you might end up regretting your ignorance, as was the case recently when a slots player lost his jackpot to a friend. That said, as long as you familiarise yourself with the local etiquette and the guidelines for the game you are playing, spending some time at an offline casino can be immensely satisfying.

Mr Holder will be using his jackpot to help him pay for his trip to Las Vegas in 2019, as well as to knock a chunk off his mortgage, so we congratulate him on his big Blackpool win and wish him continued success in the future.
