The Greatest Poker Player in the Universe will be the player who tops a €10,000 leaderboard, which will run for the duration of the championship, and points will be earned according to how players fare in the tournaments they participate in. The more tournaments players get involved in, and the better they do in those tournaments, the more points they will earn and the more chance they will have of winning a leaderboard prize.
There will also be a €5,000 Great Players leaderboard, which exists to reward those who ‘contribute to the game, and grow it for others’. Points will be awarded to players who stream their games on Facebook Live, Twitch or YouTube, and additional points will be awarded to those who provide ‘the most interesting stream of the day’.
All of the leaderboard prizes are in addition to the cash prizes, which will be up for grabs in the poker tournaments themselves. The range of 59 tournaments includes a variety of formats, so whether players prefer No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha, or whether they favour Freezeouts, Rebuys or Monster Rebuys, there will be plenty to choose from.
Direct buy-ins to the tournaments will cost from as little as €5 + €0.50 up to €300 + €20, and satellite games are already running on the MPN which gives players the chance to get involved for as little as €0.11.
‘The Universal Championship of Poker is back bigger and better again this year,’ said Alex Scott, who is Head of Product (Network Games) at Microgaming. ‘We’ve grown the guarantees from €250,000 in 2015, to €500,000 last year and now €750,000 for the 2017 instalment! We’re also thrilled to welcome Adjarabet players to the UCOP for the first time, and excited to see how this influences both the live streams, and of course the prizepools.’
