Dale was honoured for going “the extra mile” as a bingo caller, adding in jokes and even hosting paper plane contests during sessions at the club, and received £5,000 and a holiday to Florida in addition to his title. He says that his experiences at Mecca Bingo have proved invaluable in his latest venture.
“People think I used to stand there just saying ‘Two fat ladies!’ but it’s about that interaction with customers and having that good rapport,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Because of my years in bingo, I’ve come across people from all sorts of backgrounds. I know how to talk to people. I know how to calm them down when they’re all hyped up or upset.”
New recruits on the emergency line like Dale take part in three months of rigorous training for the role before they take calls from the public and Dale says he is looking forward to helping those in distress. He says his eventual goal is to become a fully-fledged police officer.
Mecca Bingo is one of the biggest names in the industry, with branches across the country offering bingo fun seven days a week. The firm also runs an online operation and you can read about the promotions and games on offer at Gamble.co.uk’s Online Bingo Reviews page.
