Boxing Tips

Boxing Betting is huge and always has been, for as long as pugilists have been knocking each other around the ring, spectators have been putting money on the outcome. Some win, some lose but the question is, are there any boxing tips you can pick up to ensure you pick a winner?

Of course with all sports betting, there are no guarantees of a return, that’s the name of the game but there are certain boxing tips you can follow to give yourself the chance of a good return.

Firstly you need to know the basics of boxing betting, if you don’t know how the bets work then you can’t possibly pick out any good boxing tips. Standard boxing bets have three results, one boxer or the other to win and the draw, there are other side bets available and we’ll come back to them later.

For a boxing bet to stand the general rules are that, the match must start within seven days of the original scheduled time, if scheduled rounds are changed all bets are generally off, knock out bets stand if a fighter wins by knockout, technical knockout and disqualification.

So now we know the basics, what are the best boxing tips to ensure we pick a winner? Well it’s worth knowing that boxing fans are an opinionated bunch, and we mean that in the best possible way. Read the pre fight rundowns in the paper, search for information about a fighter on the internet or just go with your gut instinct.

Form is more often than not right on a boxing match and with many fights – especially title fights – the betting and the boxers chances can be pretty one sided, making some hot favourites.

Of course this is fantastic if you’re betting on a favourite and it can almost mean a guaranteed win, or the best chance you’re going to have of a guaranteed win. Yet sometimes the odds can be so short you have to lay out big money with the bookmaker to get a decent return.

This is where knockout betting comes into its own. If you want a great return, without having to lay out hundreds then the knockout bet is a great way of getting good odds on a hot favourite. As we’ve mentioned knockout’s count if the fighter wins by knockout, technical knockout or disqualification.

Most bouts are contended over twelve rounds and that gives great scope for knockout betting. That is using your boxing know-how to find some great boxing tips on the round in which the fight will end. Most UK bookmakers and sports books offer boxing betting odds on the rounds of a big fight and a great boxing tip is to cover all bases.

If you have an inkling of a knockout, let’s say in round 5, then why not bet on 4, 5 and 6 covering all bases and giving yourself an extra chance. It’s not always worth it but often the odds are so good that you can justify betting on more than one outcome and still get a great return.

If you’re convinced it will be a knockout but are just not sure which round,  many UK Bookmakers offer odds on either knockout or points, these often offer much better odds than just betting on one contender.

The best boxing tip anyone can give you is just go with your gut, if you think a contender has a good chance then they probably do, and don’t forget than the bookie isn’t always right and there is often some great money to be won on the underdog!
