Video Slots

Video SlotsVideo slots are slot machine games that use a video screen to display virtual reels instead of using actual mechanical reels. All online slots can be categorised as video slots, but even at offline casinos video slots are enormously popular.

Some traditionalists don’t trust video slots (they often don’t trust many things that are new and different) but the games are just as random and fair as mechanical slot machines. In fact, it could be said that video slots are actually better than their mechanical cousins because there is little to physically go wrong apart from the coin mechanism and the software itself.

The games tend to be a lot more entertaining than regular slots because they are able to include high definition animations and even video sequences. Some games include just a few of these elements to make the games more interesting, but others take online slots gaming to a whole new level by making the slot game itself just one part of a much richer multimedia experience. Imagine a slots game that has a plot, actors and actresses and special effects and you’ll get some idea of just what is possible.

Although many video slots games have a regular array of push-buttons, some use touch screen technology so that absolutely everything is contained on the screen apart from the coin slot and payout tray. These touch screen games can be interesting, but casinos need to ensure that the screens are cleaned regularly or they can become smeared and this impairs the whole visual experience.

Online slots can, as we said at the outset, be classified as video slots, and both online and offline video slots games seem to be spurring each other on to bigger and better things. Quite how far video slots will progress is impossible to answer, but for those of us who like a bit more than a few spinning reels to keep us entertained, there is no doubt that video slots are currently the slots games of choice.
