Wrong Betting in Online Craps Games

Wrong Betting in Online Craps GamesWrong betting – which basically means placing a Don’t Pass bet at the Craps table – isn’t very popular at offline casinos, and it’s quite easy to understand why. When you make a Don’t Pass bet you are effectively betting with the casino and against the Shooter. In an offline environment there is often an ‘us’ and ‘them’ attitude between the players and the casino establishment, so betting on the Pass line (and taking the side of the Shooter) is very popular and the few players who dare to ‘join the dark side’ by betting on the Don’t Pass line can often feel a little awkward.

The good news for wrong bettors is that when you play online craps you don’t need to worry about what other people may or may not think. Although most online craps players tend to view themselves as the Shooter and focus on trying to beat the casino (often by betting on the Pass line) the wrong bettor can view the Roll button in the game simply as something that gives an unseen Shooter permission to roll the dice. This removes any psychological dichotomy (however subtle) that could be caused by viewing oneself as the Shooter and betting on the Don’t Pass line at the same time.

When you view the Roll button in this way (as something that gives permission for a Shooter to roll rather than something that allows you to roll the dice yourself) then the whole game of online Craps opens up and suddenly wrong betting won’t seem so wrong after all. Instead, you will find yourself in a similar situation to a Baccarat player who bets on the Player hand, the Banker hand or the Tie without being personally associated with either the Player or Banker.

For the reasons just stated, the Pass line bet will always be one of the most popular among most online Craps players – there is just something about rooting for the Shooter to beat the casino (or viewing oneself as the Shooter) that people find very difficult to shake off. That said, if you can take a more objective point of view as we have described there is no reason why you shouldn’t bet against the Shooter and play the Don’t Pass line with just as much enthusiasm.

With the Don’t Pass line bet giving the casino a slightly smaller house edge than the Pass line bet (usually 1.36% as opposed to 1.41%), becoming a wrong bettor in online craps games could well work in your favour. Give it a try the next time you play to see how you like it and good luck!
