William Hill Relieved

William Hill RelievedWilliam Hill has released a tongue-in-cheek announcement thanking Open Championship winner Padraig Harrington ‘for making his injured wrist public and secondly for beating Ian Poulter who was a far bigger payout.’

The famous wrist injury undoubtedly put many people off backing Harrington, and that saved the bookmaker a fortune when he overcame it to win the Open Championship in impressive style.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Without the Injury we would have taking at least double, if not treble the amount that we did on the holder. Instead we made a tidy sum and can only hope that the USPGA will be as popular without Tiger Woods, as the Open turnover was a record breaker!”

William Hill has now priced Padraig Harrington as the 12/1 second favourite to win his third Open Championship in a row. Tiger Woods, who didn’t participate this year, is already the firm favourite at 3/1. Next up is the USPGA event, and although Phil Mickelson is favourite to win at 9/1, Padraig Harrington isn’t far behind at 14/1.

Will golf betting fans across the nation be able to wipe the smile off the bookies face by picking the USPGA winner? Or will William Hill release another pleasant “thank you” note in a few weeks time? We’ll keep you posted....
