Robin Hood Blackjack Player
An expert blackjack player known as Robin Hood 702 (or RH702) is putting his blackjack skills to altruistic use by offering to pay at least half the household bills of needy families. Robin Hood 702 has done this before, and his gestures made headlines around the world, so he’s doing it again. Two families in the USA will be invited to join Robin Hood 702 on an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas and watch the high-roller win the cash required to wipe out their bills. It is expected that a camera crew from Fox News will also be filming the event for posterity.
Whilst cynics might suggest that Robin Hood 702 is embarking on this exercise to raise his profile as a blackjack player and enjoy a bit of fame, we here at Gamble.co.uk would dispute that position for a couple of reasons. First, the player is obviously not going under his real name, but has selected Robin Hood 702 as an alias – not the kind of thing you would do if you wanted to become a household name. Secondly, if this was all about fame then Robin Hood 702 would make the gesture more often, and no doubt turn it into a reality TV series.
So if Robin Hood 702 isn’t seeking fame, what is he seeking? Our guess is that offering to win cash for needy families is something that he does to keep things interesting, as well as satisfy his own desire to be generous. The fact is that if a casino player has developed such a high level of expertise that he can raid the house coffers almost on demand, at some point his main problem would be finding ways to spend the money.
Think about it – if you could win tens of thousands in a couple of hours at a blackjack table, and you could repeat the feat again and again, what would you do with all the cash? Sure, you’d spend the cash on yourself to start with – maybe buy yourself a nice house, a few cars and sock away a decent pile for the future. But what then? Eventually you’d get bored of spending cash on yourself and if you didn’t find another use for your winnings you might even get bored of the game itself.
From that perspective, the altruistic gesture of Robin Hood 702 is perfectly understandable, and we are certain that the families who stand to benefit from it will be grateful. What’s particularly good for the families is that Robin Hood 702 has said that at least half of their bills will be paid even if he doesn’t win at the blackjack tables. The families involved are therefore in a no-lose position from the outset.
We like this story of Robin Hood 702 as it fits in well with the spirit of the festive season. It also demonstrates that developing expertise in casino gambling games doesn’t have to be something that only brings benefits for the player concerned, but that it can – if you have an altruistic attitude – also bring joy to others.
