Quick Seven is not Blackjack
News is circulating about a former truck driver from Kenosha, Wisconsin, who has created a brand new table game for casinos called Quick Seven. Larry Cockrell was inspired to create the game by his enthusiasm for and interest in blackjack, but although blackjack might have inspired the new Quick Seven game, online claims that Quick Seven is in any way a ‘new blackjack game’ or a ‘blackjack variation’ are very much mistaken.
Larry himself refers to Quick Seven as being a completely different game to blackjack, and he is therefore working hard to promote it to the casino industry in the US as a unique game in its own right. Unfortunately, some people are describing Quick Seven as a better blackjack game, and that is far from accurate.
The rules of blackjack are quite clear, and the aim is always for the player to get a total as close to 21 without busting. If the player gets closer to 21 to the dealer without busting then he wins, and if he gets a total of 21 with his two hole cards then he has a blackjack.
The only games that can accurately be described as blackjack variations are those that retain this central focus on the 21 total. For example, Double Attack Blackjack is a game that uses a Spanish deck of cards instead of a regular deck (in other words, all of the 10’s are missing) but the aim is still for the player to get closer to 21 than the dealer without going bust, so the game can be described as a blackjack variation without difficulty.
Quick Seven can’t be described in that way because the central focus on the total 21 just isn’t there. Instead, players have to try and get a total as close to 7 without going bust. Quick Seven players can also discard one of their cards as they try to beat the dealer. Whilst all of this makes for an extremely interesting game – and one that we would love to see appearing at online casinos in the future – Quick Seven is not blackjack by any stretch of the imagination.
