Betfair World record

Online sports betting company Betfair have been officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records for their 'living' advertisement targeting Euro2008 visitors.  If you look out of your window when flying into Vienna International airport you’ll not fail to spot the words “No.1 for football and still growing” which have been written with a variety of plants across fields with an area of more than 50 football pitches.

The dimensions accepted for the record are 1,380m x 316m, and a total area of 436,000 square metres.  The letters in the wording measure 44 metres from top to bottom and are up to 41 metres wide.

Betfair used local farmers and horticulturists to develop the project since early February this year.  It took more than nine tonnes of wheat seed, around 53,000 marigold plants and 1.5 km of cotton netting to make the basic design.  They also used rape, camomile, mustard, clover, poppies and grass to complete the mosaic.
