Profits from the Pass Line

Profits from the Pass LineThe Pass Line bet is one of the simplest of craps bets and it is therefore one that many people who are new to the game are automatically attracted to. We have discussed how Pass line bets work in a previous article, so we won’t repeat the technicalities here. What we will do is offer two approaches that online players can take to try and make profits from the Pass line without betting on any other outcome. As you may recall from our previous article on Pass line bets, a successful bet is settled at odds of 1:1 and the house edge is just 1.41%.

Both of those factors mean that virtually any ‘even money system’ can be used by Pass line bettors, but two which tend to be particularly popular are as follows:

The Four-Limit Martingale
This is an abbreviated staking plan which involves doubling up a bet after a loser (that part of the approach is the classic Martingale staking plan) but only up to a maximum losing run of four bets, including the initial bet. The staking progression here is therefore 1-2-4-8 for a total risk of 15 points, and if a winner occurs at any point the staking plan ends. You can then take your 1 point profit and run, or start afresh.

The advantage of The Four-Limit Martingale is that you only need one winning Pass Line bet to win from four possible bets, so the odds are in your favour. The disadvantage is that if you experience four losses in a row you will lose 15 points rather than the 4 points that would have been lost if betting to level stakes.

The Consecutive Winner
This Pass line system involves placing a bet on the Pass line and then doubling up if you win. Then, win or lose, you either walk away or start afresh. By taking this approach you would make a profit of 3 points if both of your Pass line bets win, or lose 1 point if the first wins but the second loses. If the first bet loses then of course the cost would also be 1 point.

The advantage of The Consecutive Winner approach is that you effectively get paid odds of 3:1 whenever you get two winning bets in a row. The disadvantage is that if wins and losses were to alternate equally you would lose 1 point per loss rather than break even overall.

In presenting the two approaches detailed above we are not saying that they are better than level stakes, but they can certainly be viewed as potentially useful strategies. If you fancy making profits from the Pass line then why not paper trade both systems to see which one you prefer? Enjoy your craps gaming and good luck!
