Dice probabilities are something that all craps players should be familiar with regardless of whether they play online craps or in a real-world casino environment, because the chances of you rolling different totals is not the same.
For example, dice probabilities show that the chances of you rolling a 7 are much higher than your chance of rolling any other number. Ignore that fact and you will pay for it.
The reason why dice probabilities make certain outcomes more or less likely to take place is simple: some outcomes can be achieved in lots of ways from two dice and some can only be achieved in a few ways. In the case of the numbers 2 and 12, there is only one way to achieve either of these outcomes when rolling two dice. However, there are no less than six ways of rolling a 7, which is why 7 is a more likely outcome.
The table below shows the number of ways in which every outcome can be achieved, then provides the percentage chance of that outcome being achieved overall from a single roll of the dice. When you are familiar with these dice probabilities you will understand precisely why the craps odds for certain outcomes differ from the odds for other outcomes. You will also appreciate that the overall chance of the shooter rolling a 7 or 11 in any given throw is 22.23%.
