Craps in the Movies

Craps in the MoviesWhen most people think of casino games that have featured in movies, they tend to think of card games such as blackjack, poker and baccarat, but craps has also played a role in quite a few Hollywood hits. In this article we take a look at some of the most famous movies in which craps has been featured so that you have a few titles to check out the next time you fancy renting yourself a DVD or two either from your local store or from one of the many online rental companies...

Guys and Dolls (1955)
Starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and Jean Simmons, Guys and Dolls focuses on an illegal craps game - ‘The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York’ - which has to constantly shift location to survive. Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, Guys and Dolls is as funny and stylish today as it was when it was first released, and if you happen to be a fan of Brando or Sinatra as well as a craps fan then it qualifies as a must-see.

The Big Town (1987)
Set in 1957, this movie stars Matt Damon as J. C. Cullen, a talented craps player who sets out to become a professional gambler. Watching him break the bank at a private club is inspirational, and craps continues to feature heavily throughout. J. C. falls in love with the club owner’s wife, and so it isn’t surprising that the club owner (played by Tommy Lee Jones) is doubly annoyed with J. C. and decides to settle things back at the craps table.

Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
If you fancy watching a Bond flick then Diamonds Are Forever is the one to opt for. James Bond usually plays Baccarat (although Texas Hold’em was used instead of Baccarat in the Casino Royale movie starring Daniel Craig) but in Diamonds Are Forever, craps is the featured game. Craps isn’t the focus of this Bond adventure, of course, but it’s a welcome garnish to what 007 afficionados consider to be a Sean Connery classic.

These are just a few of the movies in which the game of craps plays a role, and other movies that you might want to look out for include Hard Eight, Snake Eyes and Ocean’s Thirteen. Then, when you have enjoyed a couple of hours of entertainment, you can return to the online craps tables with your enthusiasm refreshed. Enjoy and good luck!
