Three Card Poker
Three Card Poker (or 3 Card Poker) is a poker-based online casino game where the player takes on the dealer head-to-head, so there is no need to wait for other players to get involved as there is in conventional online poker games. As the name of the game suggests, each hand in Three Card Poker consists of three cards, and the game is played in two stages, one requiring an Ante bet and the other (which is optional) requiring a second bet of the same size.
You start the game by placing your Ante bet, at which point three cards are dealt to you and three are dealt (face down) to the dealer. You then need to decide whether or not you want to play the hand that you have been dealt. Your decision here will of course be influenced by the strength of your hand, and Three Card Poker uses pared-down versions of six well-known Texas Hold’em poker hands, as follows:
Straight Flush – Three cards of the same suit and consecutively ranked
Three of a Kind – Three cards of the same rank
Straight – Three cards consecutively ranked
Flush – Three cards of the same suit
Pair – Two cards of the same rank
High Card – Highest card determines hand strength if none of the above apply
If you decide that you want to play your hand then you place a further bet equal to your original Ante, and the dealer reveals his hand. If the dealer doesn’t have a queen or better then his hand won’t qualify and you will be paid odds of 1/1 for your Ante bet, whilst your second bet will be refunded. If the dealer has a queen or better then his hand qualifies and the best hand (either yours or the dealer’s) wins. The odds paid for a winning hand depends on the strength of your hand.
These are just general rules, and when you explore the many different versions of Three Card Poker that are available at online casinos you may well find other rules that apply either in addition to or instead of the ones outlined here. Whilst different versions will appeal to different casino players for different reasons, Three Card Poker is a very entertaining game that everyone should try playing at least once.
