Tournament blackjack is likely to be the next big thing in the world of gambling, as the popularity of blackjack as a strategic and beatable casino game has been seen to soar in recent years. Whereas poker has dominated the world of online gambling of late, blackjack is poised to steal at least some of the limelight away in the years to come.
The new wave of blackjack as a popular tournament sport on a par with poker started with the launch of celebrity games screened on cable and satellite television stations. Whereas poker took some time to win spectators over to what can be a long and drawn out game, blackjack offers TV viewers a relatively fast and furious experience with barely a pause for breath between hands.
The only thing holding the game of tournament blackjack back from exploding in Texas Hold’em style has been a lack of accessibility. Until recently, the only way you could participate in a blackjack tournament was by playing in a bricks and mortar casino. But now that situation has changed completely.
Tournament blackjack isn’t a million miles away from tournament poker. Players buy-in to a game and receive a set number of chips – usually 1,000. Chips are bet by players according to how likely they think they are to beat the dealer. A player who loses all of their chips is eliminated from the tournament, and the one with the most chips at the end of the event is declared the winner.
