Blackjack progressive staking is a way of using gradually increasing bet sizes to try and achieve an overall profit on every winning online blackjack hand. Whilst blackjack progressive staking does involve a higher level risk than using level stakes, if you use this strategy it can be very useful.
Before you go any further, we would recommend that you read our previous article on Blackjack Betting. In that article our advice was to use no more than 10% of your total bankroll in any given session. That advice is even more important when using blackjack progressive staking, and once you have established a sizeable bankroll you might well consider dropping your total risk percentage to 5%.
For example, if you had a £1,000 bankroll you would allow yourself to bet just 5% of that amount (£50) in a single online casino session. This is obviously a matter of taste, and more aggressive online casino players might be perfectly happy risking 10% of their bankroll on a given day, but the 5% alternative is there for those of you who wouldn’t be so happy doing that.
When you have calculated your daily session limit, take that sum and – as close as you can – divided it by 31. This will give you the amount that represents 1 point for blackjack progressive staking purposes.
For example, if you have a £700 blackjack bankroll and you want to risk no more than 5%, your available session bank would be £35. Divide this by 31 and you would have £1.12, so you would round down to £1 to make life easy for yourself.
You will now play a maximum of five blackjack hands according to standard strategy as far as hitting or standing is concerned, but not doubling down or splitting. If you lose all five hands when playing in this way then you will lose 31 points. However, if you get one winning hand at any point you will make a 1 point profit overall.
You achieve this by adopting the staking progression 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, reverting back to the beginning of the sequence after a winner. This is of course a limited version of the potentially dangerous Martingale System, but here you have a fixed cut-off point (five losing hands) which prevents it from getting out of control.
Not all blackjack players like blackjack progressive staking strategies, but those that do will find this one to be of interest. Consider paper trading it at an instant casino such as Virgin Casino before deciding whether or not you want to use it for real. And remember, any run of five losing hands on the bounce will cost you 31 points, so try to quit whilst you are ahead rather than getting greedy.
