Atlantic City Blackjack is the term used to describe a game that is being played under Atlantic City rules. Most online casinos offer this variation of blackjack, and this is good news for players because the rules are more favourable than in some other versions of the game.
The main rules that set Atlantic City Blackjack apart from other variations are as follows:
• Eight decks of cards are used.
• The dealer’s hole card is dealt at the beginning of the game. Believe it or not, some variations deal the hole card after players have played their hands, which means they risk doubling down and splitting only to find that the dealer gets a blackjack. This doesn’t happen in Atlantic City blackjack because the dealer peeks when his up-card has a value of 10 or is an ace.
• The dealer must stand on all hands totalling 17 or higher.
• Players can split up to three times. This means it is possible for a player to create four separate hands from the initial pair.
• Players can double down on any two cards, even after they have opted to split a hand.
• A pair of aces can only be split once, and only one more card can then be dealt to each hand.
• If you split a pair of aces and the next card has a 10 value, your hand will be deemed a 21 and not a blackjack. If it wins you would therefore be paid even money.
• The player may surrender his hand.
It is essential that you get into the habit of checking the specific rules of the casino you choose to play at before beginning any blackjack game. This is because some casinos – whether traditional or online – may amend the traditional Atlantic City Blackjack rules for their own purposes.
