Sun Bingo

sun bingo

Sun Bingo is an online bingo site from the publishers of the famous UK tabloid newspaper The Sun. When you consider that The Sun has been offering its readers a wide variety of bingo game cards for decades, a move into the online world is not much of a surprise. What is surprising is just how genuinely innovative the The Sun Bingo experience is. In a nutshell, we love this place, and although we have a couple of minor gripes that we’ll mention as we get into the review proper, in many respects it’s one of the best online bingo sites currently out there.

Sun Bingo requires no download as all the action takes place in the web browser. Signing up for a new account is a simple matter of entering your name, address and other basic details but – and here’s our first gripe – there is no facility to try the game for free at Sun Bingo. This means that you have to enter your payment details and deposit the minimum sum of £10 before you can even look at the game. Fortunately, the game is well worth playing for real right from the off, but it would have been nice to have had a free play option nonetheless.

Having said all of that, Sun Bingo does on occasions, as a promotion, offer free bingo weeks so keep an eye on the "promotions" section of the site, or simply check our news items, for details of all the promotions from this brand.

There are multiple bingo rooms to choose from at Sun Bingo. You can choose from traditional 90 ball bingo, 75 ball pattern bingo, 80 ball bingo, Cinco and Hamster Race. The latter two games aren’t technically bingo, so we won’t discuss those except to say that they are both enjoyable and well presented, but the 80 ball game is worth a mention because it isn’t very common. It’s basically a bingo game that uses 80 numbers and a bingo board of four rows by four columns. Sun Bingo prizes are paid to the first player to make a horizontal line and then to the first player to make a full house. The 90 ball and 75 ball games have the same rules that you would find anywhere else.

All of the games here at Sun Bingo are extremely impressive from both a visual and audio point of view. Graphics are colourful and sharp, and there is some clever use of animation to keep things interesting. For example, when your tickets are daubed in 90 ball bingo, you don’t just see the card being marked, but you actually see a virtual dauber marking it. Another example of clever animation at Sun Bingo is the way the 80 ball game boards are tilted at the end of each game so that they are reset in preparation for the next one. Layout and organisation of the gaming screen at Sun Bingo is also very good, with large bingo tickets or boards, a generously sized chat facility and clear information sections. Add plenty of unique sound effects, musical jingles and excellent callers and there is little to fault from an audio-visual perspective.

Chat is very friendly and active at Sun Bingo, with all players getting involved in conversation and cheering each other along. There are plenty of chat rooms to choose from, but you can of course play without the chat facility if you prefer to do so.

Tickets for games start from just 10p each at Sun Bingo but – and here’s our second gripe – the maximum number of tickets or boards you can play in any particular game is set fairly low. For example, in the 80 ball bingo game you can play just four boards at once. You can play more tickets in the 75 and 90 ball games, but we would still have liked the maximums to have been set a bit higher. That said, the fact that almost all players will be able to afford to play the highest number of tickets allowed does make the games more balanced, so maybe some players will like this.

There are several jackpots available at Sun Bingo, and these are paid to those players who manage to make a full house within a certain number of balls being called. We witnessed one lucky player winning a jackpot as we were reviewing the site (sadly we still had 3TG), so we’ll be back soon to try our luck again.

Overall, Sun Bingo is an excellent site. Whilst we would have liked the ability to play for free before depositing funds and also to buy more tickets per game, everything else about this place oozes entertainment and we simply can’t recommend this online bingo site highly enough.
